Our church definitely doesn't want to ever become a production or a performance. We want to be welcoming without becoming purely attractional.everydayMOMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05812990338739856399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5231571105328335722.post-7566622319655907672011-11-09T22:30:42.180-06:002011-11-09T22:30:42.180-06:00At what age do I become one of the "older&quo...At what age do I become one of the "older" people?hellolittlepeepershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14488812411605861730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5231571105328335722.post-68587903451647864622011-11-09T22:29:20.967-06:002011-11-09T22:29:20.967-06:00I like new things. I don't like undulating lights that make me feel sea sick. I don't think I am old fogey. I am open to change, different backgrounds, smoother transitions. I think it is just as distracting when the slides aren't timed right. I think there is such a thing as too much. I don't necessarily think the whole "all the kids are doing it" approach is really relavent. I feel like our church can strive to be relevant and in touch with modern society in its content, not flash.hellolittlepeepershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14488812411605861730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5231571105328335722.post-87546295193067777482011-11-08T21:44:31.190-06:002011-11-08T21:44:31.190-06:00I battle with my mom on this a lot. We eased into that style b/c a 12-week class we took only allowed us to go to the contemporary...and God totally opened our hearts to it. Now we prefer it! But I always hear my mom complaining about how distracting the lights are, how loud the music is, etc., when it comes to "newer worship styles". It drives me crazy. We go around & around every time and always end up back at my point that God speaks to everyone in different ways.

I love what you wrote here below & I'll try to remember this the next time it comes up with her:

"I hope I don't get to the point that I refuse to consider keeping up with changes in technology and communication just because I don't like them. I would prefer to friend them or follow them or facetime them or whatever I need to do in the future to spark communication, rather than miss out because I insist they only mail me a handwritten letter. :)

In the same way, we can ask people to come to church and only experience the same thing we did 10 years ago. We can ignore the real fact that a younger generation expects something different. Yep. We can ignore it.

And they will go find it."

INDEED!Sueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13243305272094984600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5231571105328335722.post-7909935009635445612011-11-08T17:35:41.177-06:002011-11-08T17:35:41.177-06:00As one who does not particularly like changes, tha...As one who does not particularly like changes, thanks for reminding what is important!Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05161235843256631968noreply@blogger.com
